The Barro–Lee indicator measures the share of people aged 50–54 who have received no formal education. It is calculated as the number of individuals in this age group without schooling divided by the total population aged 50–54, expressed as a percentage. The measure is part of the Barro–Lee education statistics dataset and is used to assess educational attainment across countries and generations. Since the age group is fixed, the indicator also permits comparisons of older working-age cohorts and changes in access to education over time.
