In the financial market, an institution – for example, Northern Rock – that makes payments to organizations of any kind – in this case, to Newcastle United Football Club and Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club. In return, the recipients of the payments (the sponsored) advertise the sponsor in accordance with the contract in club-owned premises such as gymnasiums and stadiums and in other ways (in the case of sports clubs regularly with the logo of the sponsor on sports wear). This creates an image linkage that may be detrimental to one of the partners. In the example, the near insolvency of Northern Rock reflected unfavorably on Newcastle United. – In the context of securitization, defined prudentially as – a credit institution, – but other than an originator, – that establishes and administers an asset-backed commercial paper program or other securitization program in which third-party receivables are purchased. – See branding, cross-selling potential, cannibalism effect, cultural sponsorship, product placement, securitization structure.
