In older stock market parlance, shares of the Austrian South Railway. This railroad company, founded in 1858, was, after the nationalization of most railroads in the second half of the 19th century, the most important privately owned railroad company remaining in Europe and, until the disintegration of Austria-Hungary in 1919, one of the largest private companies ever. The company played an important role in the economic and social history of Austria, especially in the construction of housing for workers. Accordingly, the shares, which were also traded on many stock exchanges around the world, enjoyed a far more prominent position. – Due to the peace provisions of St. Germain (1919), by far the largest part, over seventy percent of the network fell to the successor states. The rolling stock (railway vehicles) was also divided up. The debts of the company, however, had to be borne by the Austrian state alone. It was not until the end of 1982 that the company was deleted from the Austrian Commercial Register as “Donau-Save-Adria-Eisenbahngesellschaft (DOSAG)”. – See Blue Chips, Metalliques.
