Log driving charge (faldfee; pasture fee)

Fee for the use of a waterway for drifting, namely rafting: the transportation of floating logs or lumber. – Payment to the owner (in older documents often also Possessor; proprietor) of a plot of land for the Niessbrauch (usufruct: the temporary right of use) of the land in order to – lead cattle over it to pasture (pasture; Hut, Hutung) (fee paid for the privilege of moving cattle about a plot); Trift here means the path between the stable and the pasture ground, or also – to let cattle graze there. – In many German regions there was a pasture right (also called Triebrecht, Triftgerechtigkeit, Weidegang, Hut) as the right to drive one’s cattle over fallow ground to pasture.
