Kantonalbank (cantonal bank)
In Switzerland, an institution that is wholly or majority owned by a canton and for which the canton has unlimited liability. All cantonal banks are subject to the Swiss Federal Banking Act (BankA) and the comprehensive supervision of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission (SFBC). – In 2013, the 24 cantonal banks had a market share – in terms of business volume in Switzerland – of around thirty percent.
