Bread levy [der] (grain levy)

In older documents, a levy on the amount of wheat, rye and spelt delivered to a flour mill. The owner of the mill was liable for payment and had to submit a list of the grain delivered to the license commissioner in charge of controlling the mill. – See excise, beer money, Detz, Krügergeld, octroi, chocolate tax, Verzehrgeld, Ungeld, tithe.
