The share of the top 5% of exporters in total export value measures the proportion of a country’s exports accounted for by the largest exporting firms. Exporters are ranked by their export value for a given country and year, and the values of the top 5% are divided by total export value (TEV). A higher share indicates that exports are concentrated among relatively few firms; a lower share points to a more broadly distributed exporter base. The indicator is calculated from exporter-level customs transaction data and is used to compare the concentration of export activity across countries or over time.
