The share of top 1% exporters in total export value measures the proportion of a country’s recorded exports generated by the exporters with the highest export values, representing 1% of all exporters in a given year. It is calculated by dividing the aggregate export value of this top group by total export value. A higher share indicates that export activity is concentrated among a small number of firms; a lower share points to a more dispersed exporter base. The indicator is derived from exporter-level customs transaction data and can be used to compare the concentration of export activity across countries or over time.
