A special type of technology risk in which the network of IT devices used for the entire exchange of data, especially for the purpose of transfers and stock exchange orders, breaks down. However, since today’s financial system is largely dependent on the electronic networking of traders, including the central bank, such a breakdown will cause incalculable damage. For this reason, securing data traffic is also a top priority for public authorities and also for banks. – See Committee on Information Technology, Federal Office for Information Security, Electricity Risk. – Cf. 2013 Annual Report of BaFin, p.
85 f. (supervisory action with regard to IT security at institutions; international rules).
