Term from options trading. When a hedger takes a long position in the cash market – for example, he holds a grain stock or he has grown grain – he hedges with a short position. For the purpose of this, he sells a futures contract. Thus, a replacement sale serves as a sales hedge. – See hedge transaction, hedger, option, commodity futures contract, sales hedge.
