Currency designation of an intermediate German currency introduced in October 1923 to overcome inflation; it was 1 RM = 100 Rentenpfennig. The Rentenmark replaced the completely devalued paper mark at a ratio of 1:1 trillion. The Reich copper coins in circulation were assimilated to the new Rentenpfennig, i.e. exchanged in their entirety for the new unit. In August 1924, the Rentenmark was replaced by the Reichsmark. – See coin hoards, Reichsbank, Scheidemünze, currency reform.
