Professional fee (bellman’s fee; benns publishing fee)

Formerly a payment for the public proclamation of private announcements in a community by the official crier (bellman; town crier); also called shouting money – The announcements of tradesmen such as local shopkeepers or traveling merchants were often appended to the content to be officially proclaimed because this increased the attention of the listeners. – Earlier fee for the registration and proclamation of a notice of intended marriage.
