Hollow profit (profit from hollow)

Auch in: DE FR

In older documents, the extra money a seller makes by adding hollows to the offered goods that are not visible from the outside. Especially the baking craft and the sellers of faggots (a bundle of sticks or twigs bound together, and in earlier times the main source of energy for businesses and households) were credited with this kind of schmu. Contemporary ordinances therefore contain instructions for ongoing official control of baked goods. – See Beschores, Finanz, Nassgewinn, Rebbes.
