Decimal point

In Europe, decimal places in monetary amounts are usually separated by commas, while in the USA they are separated by decimal points. – To avoid misunderstandings, central banks regularly place a gap between thousands and hundreds – the same applies to millions and thousands. Experience has shown that the dot, which is popular in German banking practice, can easily lead to misinterpretations and, as a result, to sometimes protracted legal disputes.
In Switzerland, the apostrophe (quotation mark) is customary for this purpose, i.e. for three thousand francs: 3,000 CHF.
