Studies in the U.S. and Germany have revealed that institutions – and companies in general – with their own fleet of aircraft CETERIS PARIBUS generate less profit than comparable companies without company-owned air service. In addition to the considerable costs, they point to the role model function of top bankers as an explanation. If they are generous with shareholders’ money, everyone else in the company will follow suit. – In contrast to the U.S., Germany has so far not required any information in its annual report on the number and use of company-owned aircraft. The provision of services by the bank’s own air service to politicians – as in the case of Westdeutsche Landesbank: a parliamentary investigative committee in 2000 uncovered hardly anything credible here – does not have to be disclosed to shareholders either.
