Stock exchange index

A measure designed to provide a clear overview of the development of stock market prices in numerical series or graphs. This refers either to the price development of securities as a whole or to individual segments. – See stock index, Bollinger bands, stock market outliers, Swiss Market Index. – Cf. for the euro area the ECB’s Monthly Bulletin of December 2001, pp. 37 f. The development of the most important global indices can be found (partly also subdivided by sector and in
comparison with indices from the United States and Japan) in the “Euro area statistics” section of the ECB’s respective Monthly Bulletin under the heading “Financial markets”.
