Stamp money (paper fee; dole money; expired money)

Auch in: DE

In the past, papermakers often brought crumbly, carelessly glued paper into circulation, on which writing often faded completely after a short time. In order to ensure legal security with regard to documents, the authorities felt compelled, not least under pressure from the merchants, to specially mark paper from mills with officially determined quality. In return, the users of these sheets had to pay an appropriately assessed levy, from which stamp money gradually emerged as a source of finance for the state. – Public regular payment to the unemployed (money that is given regularly by the government to persons who are unemployed). The name comes from the fact that in the past every unemployed person received an identity card in the form of a card. With this card he regularly went to the employment agency; he received a stamp in the card with the money paid out. – According to the free money theory, every banknote should lose its validity at certain intervals. It must then be revalidated with a paid stamp. – See money abolition, fee, regional money, shrinkage money, infertility theory.
