Auch in: DE DA FR NL PT SV

In the local Catholic churches of the whole world, an annual collection (collection of charity) on the feast of the apostles Peter and Paul on June 29 or the following Sunday, the proceeds of which are transferred to the pope in Rome for his free disposal. This collection goes back to a regular donation from England in the 8th century, which is where the name comes from. The origin and use of the St. Peter’s penny was regulated in detail in the circular “SAEPE VENERABILIS” of Pope Pius IX of August 5, 1871. – See indulgence money, annates, suit money, confession money, charisterium, dispensation money, church money, oblation, offering money, palliative money, procuration money, seminary money.
