Private credit

Auch in: DE FR

Generally, any type of loan granted by a bank to private households. – In terms of banking operations, this line of business incurs relatively high fixed costs. On the other hand, it is also widely regarded as a permanent source of backing (stability), especially for deposit-financed institutions such as Volksbanks and savings banks. – In 2008, forty-five percent of domestic lending – excluding government and interbank lending – by German banks was taken up by private households. Slightly more than three-quarters of these were loans related to housing construction or use. – See Abstattungskredit, Abzahlungsfrist, Bank Lending Survey, Blankokredit, Barkredit, Buchkredit, Corporate Finance, Dispositionskredit, Kredit-Punktbewertungverfahren, Konsumkredit, Laufzeitgeld, Mehrfachverbindung, Mindestanzahlung, Paketdarlehn, Personalkredit, Qard al-Hasan, Retailgeschäft, Überziehung, Verschuldungsquote, private, Vorlage, Zinsstatistik, Zinsverbot. – Cf. the ECB’s Monthly Bulletin of June 2001, pp. 15 ff. for the breakdown. Reported in the “Euro area statistics” part of the “Monetary developments, banks and investment funds” section of the respective ECB Monthly Bulletin in the most recent version, ECB Annual Report 2004, p. 39; ECB Monthly Bulletin of July 2005, p. 99 (interest rate differentials between loans to enterprises and households), ECB Monthly Bulletin of May 2006, p. 17 et seq.
