In the older regulations imposed by regional authorities concerning economic promotion, one of the most important measures was to favor beekeeping, which was very labor-intensive and risky. The most important measure was the payment of premiums to beekeepers. In addition, under certain conditions, some state authorities granted beekeepers a discount on land tax. This is because bees pollinate agricultural crops and therefore contribute to increasing the harvest. In addition, honey was considered the most important sweetener for food in earlier times – before sugar could be extracted from beets on a large scale from around 1830. Beeswax formed the raw material for candle makers (chandlers). – See Immengeld, Zeidlergeld.
