One cent transfer (one cent tranfer)
Since the beginning of 2010, there has been an increase in the number of unwanted one-cent transfers to the accounts of private households. The senders of this gift are – annoying advertisers who want to draw the recipient’s attention to a product or service and usually make this clear enough on the transfer slip in their own interest; – online payment services and aid organizations that use this method to check the personal data of a customer or donor; – fraudsters who initially link a specific bank code with account numbers thousands of times. If no error message is issued, this indicates that an account exists at the institution. Since October 2009, banks in Germany no longer have to check whether the recipient and the account number match when transferring money. Nor does a bank automatically check whether a direct debit authorization has been received from the customer. Fraudsters take advantage of this and debit smaller sums from the spied-out accounts – in order to avoid attracting attention – which are hardly noticed by the account holder. It is true that a customer has a right of revocation against a debit, which can be asserted with the account-holding institution for six weeks. However, many account holders do not check their account transactions sufficiently, miss the opposition period and thus become victims of fraudsters. – See daimonion, steam room, darkrooming, domicile obfuscation, enabler, financial vulture, money sucker, aggrieved party assembly, gift transfer, ghetto banking, internet offers, capital market, grauer, parallel banking, pump and dump, throat leech, underground banking, consumer complaints.
