Monday compensation

Auch in: DE FR

Former additional payment for the wages of a craftsman who worked on the first day of the week, Monday. – Despite many efforts on the part of the guilds, the sovereigns and even the Imperial Diet by edict of 1731 to abolish the so-called blue Monday, this day of rest remained with some craftsmen until modern times, in Germany, for example, until today with hairdressers. In order to obtain crafts services on a Monday, a sometimes very high surcharge had to be paid.
