Mittelstand (small firm sector, small firms and traders)
According to the EU definition, these include – microenterprises (independent, autonomous companies that employ fewer than ten people and whose turnover or end-of-period balance sheet does not exceed EUR 2 million) – small and medium-sized enterprises, and – liberal professions, defined as workers with special professional qualifications or creative talent who provide services on a personal, independent and independent basis (any occupation requiring substantial mastery of complex skills in the liberal arts or sciences which cannot be delegated to assistants).
