Milk products (dairy products)

Auch in: DE FR

The price of milk and dairy products – such as butter, cottage cheese, cream or cheese – has a signal function for consumers, even though the weight of these goods in the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices is comparatively low. Inflation expectations on the part of private households are therefore significantly influenced by changes in the price of milk. For this reason, the ECB also monitors price developments here as part of its two-pillar principle. – See agribulk, monetary policy, forward-looking, inflation, food, price adjustments, protein inflation, commodity prices, foreshadow effects. – Cf. Monthly Report of the Deutsche Bundesbank of August 2009, p. 62 f. (causes of price spikes for milk; overviews).
