Kindergarten argument

In relation to the EU and in particular to the EMU, the demand that the EU Commission or the ECB – except in the case of natural disasters – should not take care of the affairs of the members. Countries in difficulties would have to manage their economic situation themselves. They should not be told from the outside how to achieve this or – if they do not want to – whether to leave the EU or EMU. Conditional aids are perceived by the citizens of the affected countries as external interference, as was clearly demonstrated in the case of the Greek crisis. As a result, the willingness to change deficiencies in one’s own country decreases and, in the minds of many citizens, the helpers are ultimately perceived as having caused the imbalances. — See exit, exit risk, bailout, bank bailout, blame game, blood toll, buyer of last resort, disease management, one-vote principle, Europayer, European Monetary Union, fundamental error, EMU bust, exit, ECB sin, Friedman thesis, cash cow, Grexit, peer pressure, hegemon, mild, neuro, emergency exit, mandatory convertible bond, Plan C, rescue Europeans, rescue package, rescue routine, return ideology, structural reforms, subsidiarity principle, Tina, transfer, veiled, transfer union, troika, interest rate smoothing.
