Great Moderation (also said in German)

Expression for the fact that volatility on the financial markets has decreased since about 2000. The reasons are considered to be – the stricter selection of borrowers, – the improved risk management at banks already initiated by Basel II in anticipation of its mandatory introduction, – the global distribution of large risks through various measures, such as loan securitization, and – refinements in monitoring by supervisory authorities and central banks.
