Foreign habour fee

Auch in: DE FR

Special charge for incoming goods when, instead of passing through a domestic port – e.g.: Hamburg, Bremen – via foreign ports – such as: Antwerp, Rotterdam. – Such a levy, also called differential duty, is equivalent to a protective tariff. It prevents the most economical transport route from being chosen. The foreign port fee thus makes the goods (raw materials, finished product) more expensive and thus burdens the end consumer, the private household. – See port money, prices, administered, ungeld.
