Foreign exchange (xenocurreny)

Domestic money in the hands of non-residents or foreign money in the possession of residents. – Foreign exchange can exist not only in the form of cash – then called foreign notes and coins in banking parlance – but also as foreign currency claims, balances in foreign banks, checks, remittances and bills of exchange. – See discount, cash foreign exchange, denomination, foreign exchange market, cash equivalents. – See the annex “Euro area statistics,” section “Monetary statistics,” subheading “Consolidated financial statement of the Eurosystem” in the respective ECB Monthly Bulletin on foreign currency claims.
