Earlier levy to be paid to the district in the sense of municipal association, also called district concern, district estimate, district extraordinarium, district fee, district prestanda, district treasury, district levy and similar. The district money was collected – partly from all persons residing in the district (district dwellers), – partly from well-to-do persons, – partly as a levy from the individual municipal treasuries. – The levy was primarily used to finance infrastructure measures for the district (to develop infrastructure of the area), such as the construction of roads, the creation of facilities for fire protection such as fire ponds, equipment and wagons, the establishment and maintenance of special schools or the construction and operation of old-age homes and hospitals. – See fire money.
