Category 1 security (tier-one asset; here

tier, level): Collateral originally marketable at the ECB which fulfills certain eligibility criteria defined by the ECB and uniform for the euro area as a whole. – These criteria included – denomination in EUR, – issuance (or guarantee) by entities in EEA countries, and – deposit with a national central bank or central depository within the euro area. – As of the beginning of 2007, a uniform collateral list was established and, at the same time, the scope of eligible collateral was expanded. This was accompanied by the standardization of eligibility features. This list is available on the ECB’s website. – See credit assessment framework, collateral list, uniform. – Cf.
