Cash crop (so also said in German, more rarely commercial crops)

Agricultural harvests that are supplied to the market for sale; as distinct from production that is consumed on the farm itself for subsistence or used to feed livestock (crop which is sold for money; the term is used to differentiate from crops that are not sold, such as fed to livestock or appropriated as nourishment for the producer’s family and workforce). – Agricultural goods, such as cereals, coffee, cocoa or bananas, which are sold in bulk and usually for export. – Now, because consumption is ultimately the goal of all economic activity-because all people are constantly and repeatedly dependent on food intake to sustain life-the prices of agricultural commodities take on a significant role in any economy. – See agricultural policy, agricultural commodities, biofuels, inflation expectations, core inflation, climate inflation, carbon dioxide inflation, dairy products, protein inflation, commodity prices, stabilization fund, second-round effect.
