Business Continuity Programs (also referred to in German)

Work instructions designed to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of payment systems even in the event of various types of disruptions, especially power failures. The corresponding instructions refer both to the avoidance of such events (preventative measures) and to steps to be taken in the event of breakdowns (arrangements to deal with contingencies: events that are possible). For example, the TARGET system is divided among four sites in two widely dispersed regions to minimize any systemic risks. – See capital transfer system, electronic, retail payment system, electronic, RTGS system, TARGET system. – Cf. Deutsche Bundesbank Monthly Report of September 2005, p. 49, p. 55 (referring to TARGET).
