Banker, the feminine form sometimes banker and, in the 2008 financial crisis, often also bankster [in reference to “gangster” = evildoer, criminal], and damager [composed of damage and manager = damage doer] (banker; bankster; damager)

Someone who works in the financial industry – that is, not necessarily only in the narrow sense at a bank. The job title in this sense became firmly established in the German language from about 1980 onward, widely replacing the word “bank employee.” – The pejorative terms “bankster” and “damager” refer more to persons with a certain decision margin (here, the extent of independent, autonomous performance assigned to a professional activity) and generally do not include executive employees. – From around 2008, the supervisory authorities gradually placed senior executives in the financial sector under closer scrutiny. It had become clear that bankers often enough completely lost track of their institution’s business from one day to the next. Although the persons acting in the financial sector ultimately determine events through their decisions, the supervisory authorities cannot reprimand or even dismiss incompetent bankers because of their legal mandate. – See dismissal order, resolution order, investment liability, bank official, banking license, bank scolding, bank nationalization, banker, bank failure prevention, bonus, Citigroup bonus system, commitment, sole proprietorship, banking, financial vulture, financial sodomite, financial terrorist, money sucker, handshake, golden, high potential, infighting, low performer, measure at risk, Peter rule, practice, expertise, shitstorm, Aunt Milly, pre-audit, lemon trading, forced closure.
