Bank deconcentration, German (German bank deconcentration)

Auch in: DE EL FR JA

In 1947, the three Western occupying powers in Germany, namely England, France and the United States, decreed that the three major branch banks Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Bank – which was merged into Commerzbank in 2008 – and Commerzbank be split into thirty individual successor institutions. When the sovereign rights of the Western Allies – the occupation statute that had been in force until then was abolished – ceased to apply with the entry into force of the German Treaty and the Paris Agreements in 1955, this loss-making unbundling was reversed by 1957. – See bank size, optimal, unbundling, Gigabank, Big Bank Act.
