Account, portable (portable account)

Auch in: DE FR

The requirement that when a customer moves from one bank to another, the account number must be transferred to the new provider. – The account numbers commonly used in Germany today are assigned according to different classifications and organizing methods. The transfer to another numerical system is therefore virtually impossible or would only be possible at extremely high cost. After all, the post office is not required to retain the previous street and house number when a customer moves to another city. On closer examination, the demands made in this regard by consumers’ associations, which are repeatedly made public, prove to be unrealistic in several respects.
