Gold-silver relation

Auch in: DE FR

From ancient documents and the books of the Old Testament, a value ratio of gold to silver can be calculated as 1 to 12. Both metals were used until modern times for the production of valuable coins; other precious metals – such as platinum – were still unknown or too expensive to produce according to the state of metallurgy at that time. – On average, from the 13th century to the 16th century, the price ratio of gold to silver was 1 to 10.5. For the 19th century, a ratio of 1 to 15.3 is mentioned. Experts assume that in 2010 a good 85 percent of the world’s possible gold reserves were mined. The price ratio of both metals in 2006 was about 1 to 37. – See chrysocracy, gold price, value relativity.
