Stop order

Auch in: DE FR NL

Conditional stock exchange order for precautionary loss limitation. The stop order instructs the bank or broker to sell a commodity at the best possible price if the market price falls below a certain line. Such conditional orders are very common in foreign exchange, precious metals and commodities trading (an order to a broker to sell when the price of an asset falls to a designated level). – An instruction to the broker or bank to cancel placed orders (an order to cancel pending transactions that are placed with the broker or the bank). – See all-or-nothing order, cap, GTC order, limit, collateral block, cancel, day order. – Cf. BaFin Annual Report 2006, p. 173 (facts of stop order fishing).
