Treasury (direct tax)

In older documents, usually the generic term for any regular levy that directly binds the obligor to pay. In contrast, surcharges – usually only as a plural term – are called levies included in prices. – However, the terminology is not uniform even in the older literature. – See imposts, contribution, fees, tolls.
