Up-Tick Rule (so also said in German, more rarely HandelsbeschränkungsRegelung)

Blocking of turnover on the stock exchange in Neuyork if the Dow Jones stock index rises by more than fifty points within a short period of time. – This restriction is intended to prevent computer-controlled buy programs, which trigger corresponding buy signals in fractions of a second, from causing a rocket-like increase in demand after the close of trading and worldwide. In this case, there is a danger that this will lead to a crash with far-reaching consequences. – See bubble, speculative, currency trading, computerized, domino effect, attitude, financial system, trading suspension, herd behavior, rally, run, sell-plus-order, uptick.
