Ein Betrieb – als Entität, in der ständig Produktionsfaktoren zwecks Erstellung marktgängiger Waren und/oder Dienstleistungen (marketable goods) unter Beachtung wirtschaftlicher Rationalität zusammengefügt (combined) werden – im marktwirtschaftlichen System; eine Firma, die unter der Leitung und Kontrolle von dazu bestellten Funktionsträgern steht (an establishment that operates under the ownership or control of a single organisation. In other words: a company in the market economy – may be a business, service, or membership organisation; – which consists of one or several establishments; – operates at one or several locations; – includes all subsidiary organisations as well as – all establishments that are majority-owned by the company or any subsidiary, and – all the establishments that can be directed or managed by the company or any subsidiary). Ziel des Unternehmens ist es, durch Einsatz der Produktionsfaktoren und die auf Dauer angelegte Herstellung von Gütern einen Gewinn zu erzielen. – Siehe Geldhaus, Institut.
