In older documents, often a generic term for tributes. – A one-time or regular payment, usually to a ruler for his supremacy or protection (as an acknowledgment of submission, or as the price for protection). – See Brandschatzgeld, Dänengeld, Freikaufgeld, Harai, Hussengeld, Ranzion, Satisfaktionsgeld, Superindukt, Türkengeld, Vogtgeld.
