Stagnation, secular stagnation

The state of market equilibrium discussed in economics as a result of underutilization of production capacities, usually associated with a high rate of unemployment. In connection with demographic change in mature economies (demographic change: a decrease in the rate of births and an increase in the life expectancy), this possibility has recently been considered again. – See capacity utilization rate, data uncertainty, capacity utilization, business cycle diagnosis, order-capacity index, potential growth, output constraints, output gap, Say’s law, aging. – Cf. Deutsche Bundesbank Monthly Report of April 2014, pp. 15 et seq. (theoretical framework; monetary policy options; references).
