Sell Out (so also said in German, more rarely sell-off wave)

Sudden concentrated sales of securities, commodities or real estate that trigger sharp price falls on the stock market. – Two causes are considered to be primarily responsible for this, namely – a liquidity crunch that has occurred, forcing many investors to sell in order to close out their account at the bank; in this case, one speaks of panic selling, or – unfavorable expectations about the price of assets; in this case, one speaks of mass selling. Unfortunately, the definition of the term is not uniform in German and also in English; however, sell out is always understood as a generic term. –
