Screening (also referred to in German, more rarely as investment pre-selection)

In relation to a planned capital investment, the initially non-binding, open-ended preliminary examination of possible engagements (the first decision made in evaluating capital projects; it indicates whether an engagement is principally appropriate based on established criteria). Major funds constantly receive applications for involvement from all over the world. As a rule, a separate working group is responsible for sifting through the incoming offers, making a preliminary selection and forwarding to the fund management the commitments that are basically suitable for the fund. – See Security Analyst.
