The risk that an investment in a company will cause it to fail due to special circumstances that are difficult to foresee. An example is contaminated buildings and soils that have to be decontaminated at high cost (the company owns properties with significant environmental problems, and cleaning up these properties will lead to a serious financial drain). – See risk, operational.
