Public credit register
A list, called for by some, of all loans granted by banks in a currency area – and perhaps also to whom; i.e. not limited to large loans, as is already the case. Such an overview should not only serve market transparency in the financial market, but also be useful to the supervisory authorities in their tasks. – Data privacy activists have raised weighty objections to such proposals. They see this as the first step toward the transparent (see-through, glass) customer in other sectors and ultimately in all areas of the economy. – A public list of all loans that banks have granted – worldwide and – to which debtors (risk map). Many prefer such an international credit register to a worldwide central supervision of banks. This has already been introduced in Europe. In spring 2010, however, only seven of the 27 EU member states participated in the project. – See Customer Data Information Obligation, Nominee, Second ID Card.
