Privatization

In general, the transfer of a public task to a non-publicly owned company (the economic process of transferring property from public ownership to private ownership; an opposite process is nationalization) – In relation to the financial sector in particular, the complete or partial (partial privatization) transfer of ownership of a previously state-owned institution to private owners. – In the past, this usually happened when the institution was close to bankruptcy or had already come close to bankruptcy due to incompetent but highly paid individuals from the political parties (incompetent, high-salaried party comrades). – See Free Banking, Hypo Real Estate rescue. – Cf. Monthly Report of the Deutsche Bundesbank, October 2009, p. 19 (case-by-case examination required for every privatization project).
