Pay slip and pay stub

A piece of paper or electronic message provided by employer to an employee as indication of payment of wages or salary; it usually includes details such as the amount of tax withheld. – Until about 1960, wages were usually given to employees in cash on Fridays, in a small brown paper bag, the wage[s] packet, pay packet. Hence the term “Lohntüte” is still sometimes used today. – See paycheck.
