Master conduit (also referred to in German)

Unless otherwise defined, a rescue company that was to be set up in October 2007 by leading banks together with the Treasury Department in the USA in the wake of the subprime crisis. The aim was to absorb highly creditworthy securities from special purpose vehicles (structured investment vehicles) that had issued debt instruments. The aim was to prevent distress sales and the associated price collapse. At the end of 2007, the parties involved abandoned their plan for various reasons. – See Shadow banking, Special purpose vehicle refinancing.
