Mail shot (also used in German)
In the financial sector – in general, any written connection to a customer, and – in particular, mass letters to private households and companies not yet part of the customer base, in order to draw attention to the services of the institution (direct advertising; direct mail). – If only a few letters are sent (initially) in order to gauge the response to the message, this is usually referred to as a mystery letter (test letter). – See Advance Letter, relationship management, canvassing, cold calling, customasing, cheesemaking, scoring, advertising restrictions.
